The Good Part

Tell Me Your Story Tuesday

About an hour after tucking them in, I went to check on my daughters last night. My youngest was sound asleep, head thrown back, mouth open and everything.

My oldest...well, she was reading.

She didn't even have a flashlight. She tilting the book just right to catch the light from the closet (which must remain lit at all times, lest a monster decide to take nest there).

When she noticed I was standing at the door, she grinned.

"I'm at a really good part."

The "Mom" part of me that will have to drag her out of bed in the morning was exasperated, but the "Reader" part of me trumped the Mom.

I remember reading in the dark.  I love the feeling of being so drawn into a story that sleep becomes a non-priority.

So, as a fellow reader, I winked at her and whispered,
"Finish this chapter, then time to put it away."

What about you? Tell me your story. Ever stayed up way past your bedtime just to find out who gets the girl? Or, better yet, who done it?

Dawn, I think it's neat how you let your daughter finish the chapter. You're setting a good example as a reader and a mom. Reading is good--and so are boundaries and limits.

I have stayed up countless times, countless books to get to or finish "the good part." I'm always tired the next morning, but it's soooo worth it. ;)

Gee, I guess I've stayed up late waiting for the "who dun it" and "getting the girl" in the same scene. Ahem.
