Friday Plots Swap~ Dream style

Dawn's Plot Swap
Have a plot? Leave one
Need a plot ? Take one

You might have heard of a little series called Twilight.
Love it or hate it. You have to admit it is successful and according to Stephanie Meyer. It all started with a dream.
"I woke up (on that June 2nd) from a very vivid dream. In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods."

Do your dreams ever provide inspiration?

Recently, I dreamed I went for a walk in the dark near a river. I was trying to avoid walking into several spiderwebs when I saw two boats chasing each other on the river. The boats were the skimmer kind, like people use in swamps. One man was on the first boat, but there were two men in the second. The man steering the first boat looked over his shoulder. I could see the terror in his face as one of the men on the second boat raised a shotgun.

I guess paranormal writers dream about vampires. Evidently, suspense writers dream about chases and gun fire.

So, swap me! Had any good dreams lately? Had any bad dreams lately?

The Big Guy told me he dreamt the other night about trying to lay plumping under a dock with some friends of his from college.

What kind of writer do you suppose that makes him? I know, I know, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, Dr. Freud.

I can't remember if it was a dream, a commercial, or something I actually saw. Scary, I know! I'm in the car. Road construction ahead on the two lane hwy. One side it elevated with freshly laid pavement while the lane I'm in is dug up and lower. I see him. He's tall, lean, rugged looking, handsome even with his smudged face. He's holding a construction sign in one hand, his other dangling at his side... he stands with one foot on the lower portion of the road and the other resting on the higher portion of the road - knee slightly bent. Sandy blond hair peeks out from under the hardhat. My writer's wheels were instantly turning!

The night before last, I dreamed one of my cats had gotten outside. After a little running around, I finally got her back in. I shut the door and turned to look at her, but the entire half of her skin had peeled off her body exposing muscle and bone. She was sort of limping along, dragging the dangling skin on the floor. I screamed in anguish. I sobbed in my sleep which woke me.

It was horrible. I don't have a clue what it means or what kind of writer that makes me, but I really wish those kinds of dreams would stay far away!!

Oh, Tressa! Ugh! Sounds like a mystery, suspense, or both to me.

I forgot to say what kind of writer I am. The old as hills hero rescuing the heroine type. :D

I've never attempted a mystery, etc. as I figure one would have to have an actual outline for that and I'm a pantser. XP

I write these sort of strange character driven stories with quasi-plots, no villains, and pseudo-realities. I call it "literary fiction". hehe

Tressa~ I am a total pantser. Outlining makes my eye start to twitch!

I'm a percolator! :D I have to mull things over for a long time and then most of the time my fingers fly like a panster. At that point, I've arranged enough in my head that I can be a safe panster instead of a dangerous one. LOL

Great comments, ladies.
Here are my interpretations. The MC in my current WIP runs a dream interpretation website. So, I've been dabbling. The following is for entertainment purposes only. You shouldn't base your life on it (or on anything else I say for that matter!)

Teri~ TBG feels he is building a foundation or working "behind the scenes" hence, the work being under the dock. The college friends either represent support (is he still friends with these guys?) or part of his past which he is drawing on his experiences from to complete his task.

Linnette~ Yours has the great making of romance novel. Especially when heroine crashes her car and hot hard-hat man has to come to the rescue!
You are traveling a rough road right now. You can see the easy, higher path, but haven't made the change. The man is straddling both roads. He represents someone who could help you leave the road you are on and redirect your path. He's holding a construction sign, so he is responsible for part of the smoother path.
Of course, if this is some scene you just passed driving down the road, the above is null and void.

Tressa~ While your dream is terrifying and sounds like something out of Stephen Kind Novel, it may not be as horrible as it seems. Some people believe our dreams are full of metaphors and idioms. You are searching for a solution to a problem. It is difficult to find and you feel like you are being left in the dark (if it was dark while you were searching for the cat) or given the run around (because it took you so long to find it.) The solution is not to your satisfaction. Or you are appalled at the outcome. Which is why you see the cat without skin. (There is more than one way to skin a cat)

So, that is my grand wisdom for today. What do y'all think?

Dawn- That's pretty good! It was dark in the dream, btw. :) Most days I do feel like I'm wandering around in the dark. (I don't want to fill your blog w/my issues. heh) I think I'll take the "more than one way to skin a cat" metaphor to heart. While I can often see things from several angles, I will sometimes get stuck on one path when I could actually hop off the path entirely.

Linette, I chuckled at "safe pantser". I instantly thought, "Hoy! I type dangerously with my pants. Are they around my ankles? Or...? Hmmm." LOL

I just noticed I skipped an 'n' in your name Linnette; I'm sorry. :(
