This screams mystery to me. Who is the woman? Why did the man feel the need to be "dead" to be away from her? The woman found out when she went to his former house. Can you imagine that conversation?

I could see this working for a sweet, light romance or a creepy, stalker thriller.

The guy living in the attic freaked me out when I saw the news story. That one would make a great book.
To put a different spin on it, I might reverse the roles. So few women are serial killers that it might be fun to have one live in the attic until she kills him and then move to her next fixation!
